[edit] Criticism

Although the book was an amazing tour de force it also created a new trend in the mathematical analysis of chemical engineering systems. Chemical engineering appeared to be adopted by people who wanted an excuse to do mathematics, and lost sight of the practical focus - or, at least, the easy adoption of the practical output of their work. Rutherford Aris was a leading light in this, producing works of great beauty and analysis, but which then required intermediates to turn the results into something that the wider chemical engineering community could use.
