TRANSLTR
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
TRANSLTR is a fictionial computer from the book Digital Fortress by Dan Brown.
- it has been designed by the NSA to decipher cryptograms by brute force
- it can process thirty million keys per second or one hundred billion keys per hour
- it has three millions processors that work in the same time and are friged by a gas called FREON.
- it can decipher a message encrypted by a ten thousand bits key in one hour (This is of course fiction, in order to try 210000 keys, a number with more than 3000 digits, even an extremely fast computer would take millions of years)
- it is a well-kept secret. NSA denies its existence and carries disinformation, intimidation or blackmail against anyone attempting to reveal its existence.
