1869 – The Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad, building westward from Topeka, reaches Carbondale, Kansas.
1872 – The Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad, building westward from Newton, Kansas, reaches Hutchinson.
1892 – Brienz Rothorn Bahn (pictured), in Switzerland, opens.
