- 1859 – Hannibal and St. Joseph Railroad completes construction of its line across Missouri to connect its namesake cities.
- 1902 – The Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York Railroad, a predecessor of the Pennsylvania Tunnel and Terminal Railroad, is incorporated.
- 1970 – The United States Interstate Commerce Commission approves the discontinuation of the California Zephyr passenger train.
