Toxic glaucoma

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Toxic glaucoma is open angle glaucoma with unexplained significant rise of intraocular pressure following unknown pathogenesis. Intraocular pressure sometimes can reach 80 mmHg. Some characteristic appearances can be demonstrated by OCT as cilliary body inflammation, massive trabecular edema and sometimes the swelling extends to Schlemm's Canal. This condition differentiated with malignant glaucoma by deep and clear anterior chamber and empty of aqueous misdirection. Corneal appearance is not so hazy. Visual acuity reduction can occur followed neuroretinal breakdown. Associated factors include inflammation, drugs induced, trauma and post intraoclar surgery, including cataract surgery and vitrectomy procedures. Gede Pardianto (2005) reports that Toxic glaucoma suffer on four patients and one of them underwent phaecoemulsification with small particel nucleus drops. All cases can not be better with some medications, vitrectomy procedures and trabeculectomy. Valving procedures can give some help but it need some advanched research.[1]
