Arms of the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, granted by the College of Arms 1st September 1965.
Of the three authorities merged in 1965 to form Tower Hamlets, only the Metropolitan Borough of Stepney had an official grant of arms. The arms and crest of the London Borough closely resemble those of Stepney, and include references to the port of London (the galley and anchors), St Dunstan, patron saint of Stepney (the tongs), weaving (the shuttle) silk manufacture (the mulberries) and the Tower of London.
Supporters were added in 1965: theses are a seahorse and a talbot or hound. These refer to the maritime associations and the Isle of Dogs respectively.
The Motto is a translation of that used by Stepney, which was in Latin.
