Isn't this meaning essentially the same as geography? The article makes it sound as if this was a distinct field of some kind. Either the articles should be merged, or the relationship should be better explained. -- Beland 07:02, 1 December 2006 (UTC)
- My understanding is that geography generally refers to macro phenomena, while topography refers to micro. If that makes sense. You are correct that geography as an eacedmic field has taken over much of the territory of topography, and that should be added in (perhaps by someone who knows more of the history of the field), but it was historically a distinct field and should be treated as such.--Natcase 13:59, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
