Tony Hibbert (born 20 February 1981 in Huyton, Liverpool, Merseyside is an English footballer who plays as a defender for Everton.

[edit] Career

Hibbert was born in Liverpool and brought up in Huyton. He was a member of the Everton youth team that won the FA Youth Cup in 1998, and made his first team debut for the club in their 2–0 win against West Ham United in 2001. Originally a midfielder, Hibbert has adapted his game and is now a regular at right back. In July 2005 he signed a four-year deal with his hometown club. The ACTIM index rated him the best English right back in the 2004–05 season,[1] but he has yet to receive an England call up.

He missed the end of the 2005–06 season with a hernia problem and his preparations for the 2006–07 season were hampered after he was infected by cryptosporidium parasite, an illness contracted through infected water or food.[2] Hibbert's 2006–07 season was seriously disrupted by injury. He has played regularly in 2007–08. In October 2007 he was sent off in the Merseyside derby at Goodison Park for committing a professional foul on Steven Gerrard to concede a penalty, the first of two penalties which gave Liverpool a 2–1 win.
