It's not at all clear what the sentence "USB had long 'picked up' the 'losses' from the operations." means. I don't see the abbreviation USB defined anywhere. I'd guess it means "US Borax", but that's just an semi-educated guess. And even assuming one knows what USB means, the rest of the sentence is pretty opaque.
