Great start. I've added in one or two things, plus the NaSTA logo and a photo of the GUST studio. One major thing I'd like to know is what exactly is the article going to be called? I put 'Student Television in the United Kingdom' at the start there, but we've also got 'British Student Television' or 'UK Student Television' can anyone think of anything better? Actually, be careful of saying 'British' because last I heard there was a station from Northern Ireland affiliating with NaSTA, so I think it's probably better to stick to 'United Kingdom' or 'UK'. You could use British isles or UK and Ireland but i'd go for mention under the recent growth of student TV Sherzo 15:12, 8 June 2007 (UTC)

I think the most encyclopedic 'sounding' is Student Television in the UK and Ireland (i.e. using short-form names of both the countries covered. However it's a little cumbersome. By the way, excellent start, I like the illustrative photo.Tomisaac 21:12, 8 June 2007 (UTC)

I'd really like to flesh this out but I'm not sure where I'd get my sources, and I think it really needs to be sourced to avoid criticism. It's actually quite surprising, when you think about it, just how long student TV has been around for in the UK. It must have been really tough before DV and non-linear editing made everything cheap and very easy. Perhaps that should be commented on in the article. JMalky 14:49, 8 June 2007 (UTC)

Yes, they did. Certainly at YSTV. I attended a NaSTA conference where they wheeled out one of the early members, and he was talking about editing with the camera negative because they couldn't afford a work print! Must have been a nightmare. It's only anecdotal info I have, and unfortunately the YSTV website only describes early broadcast methods, which would have been from u-matic tape. Thing is, the station was founded in '67, but u-matic only came on the market in '71. Earlier video technologies were hugely expensive and complex, and I just don't see how a student TV station would have operated them. So they must have broadcast live and used film occasionally. Just a random, up-in-the air suggestion but maybe it wouldn't be such a bad idea to get NaSTA alumni interested in writing down what they know about student TV in some other independent location (which wouldn't be wikipedia as that would count as original research). There is a lack of a website with a history of student television broadcasting.Tomisaac 21:16, 8 June 2007 (UTC)
