[edit] Episode markup
I see that you have been updating Mystery Science Theater 3000 articles by changing the formatting of the episode references. It's certainly true that there has been little consistency in how this is done. To the best of my knowledge, there is no convention within the Wikipedia:Manual of Style that describes how episode numbers should be formatted. (Common ones are in the forms 1x01, 1-01, and [1.01], the last being the current official form at en:Wikiquote.) However, there are specific styles for the titles of films, TV shows, and TV episodes. The first two must be italicized; the last must be quoted (using so-called double quotes). Under no circumstances should the titles be left bare, as you have been editing them.
On the other hand, two complications arise with MST3K:
- Within the MST3K world, it's common to use the #101 format that you've been establishing. This is even easier to understand when dealing with the KTMA season, as K01 looks better (at least to the MSTie eye) than [K.01], Kx01, K-01, or even 0-01. Wikipedia, like any other publication, reserves the right to establish its own canonical style for this kind of information, but in the absence of such guidelines, I suppose interested editors can format it any way they like, within reason.
- More importantly, since every episode of MST3K is also a film or TV movie, it's not obvious whether quotes or italics should be used. But there is already a rule of thumb to deal with similar ambiguities: use the markup for the intended meaning. The TV show Firefly has both an episode "Serenity" and a sequel film Serenity (not to mention other uses). Each one is marked up depending on its context. Likewise, we should quote titles of MST3K episodes, but italicize references to the original films.
Please consider these points in your edits. Thank you. ~ Jeff Q (talk) 02:14, 6 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Allegations of sock puppetry on the Ben Best page
As someone who has edited the Ben Best page recently, you may have been aware of the allegations of sock puppetry. As this has continued for six weeks now, I have started the appropriate Wikipedia handling process. If you wish to make a contribution, please go to Wikipedia:Suspected sock puppets/CRANdieter and add your views to the Comments section. Nunquam Dormio 13:52, 7 September 2006 (UTC)
