Todd A. Haney

Todd Alan Haney (born March 27, 1971 in Fullerton, California) is a marine biologist and a doctoral candidate at the University of California, Los Angeles. He is a specialist in the study of crustaceans, specifically leptostraca and cyamidae, having discovered several new species (including Nebalia Schizophthalma[1], Nebalia gerkenae[2], and Nebalia kensleyi[3]) and a new genus (Saronebalia[4])
Haney graduated magna cum laude with a B.S. in Zoology and a minor in Chemistry from Northern Arizona University. He then earned a M.S. in Marine Biology from University of Charleston, South Carolina.While earning his graduate degrees he worked as a teaching assistant for various courses of study that included Evolution, Animal Physiology, Animal Behavior, and Human Psychology.
Haney has also performed research at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, Marine Resources Research Institute, and Glover’s Reef Marine Research Station. He has published several research papers as well as been a presenter at a variety of national and international conferences. He is one of the foremost experts on whale lice and exploding whales in the world.
Previously he worked at Shalhevet High School in Los Angeles as a field instructor and instructor for AP Biology and Ecology. Currently, he is teaching AP Biology, Marine Science and Biology and heads the National Ocean Sciences Bowl at Sage Hill School in Newport Coast, California.
Personal Life
Todd Haney Currently lives in Long Beach, California with his wife Lisa, a fellow Marine Biologist and young son Ty and newborn Ryan "Optimus Prime" Haney. Todd Haney enjoys kite flying, crab hunting, scuba diving, reading George Orwell and is fond of Captain Underpants.
