Instead of using this great website, use this one if you only want main points. The real article will give you the very precise facts which may be boring to some.

[edit] Films

Films are by far the most modern way to tell stories. Currently, there are more than billions of films ranging from the genres of comedies to sci-fi to horror. Many successful films in the whole history may include Citizen Kane, The Queen, Modern Times, Walk the Line, and millions of others.

Here is a brief intro to this section: Paragraph One is about making motion pictures. Paragraph Two is a brief list of superstars and a list of their productions. Paragraph Three is about the history of films. Paragraph Four is about modern films.

Filmmaking is one of the most challenging art in history. First, you must remember the five steps on the process: 1. Development 2. Pre-production 3. Production 4. Post-production 5. Distrubution

Development is when you start thinking of a story. Usually, it is the producer who thinks of one or he is the one who wants one. Then, he asks a writer to write it. If he thinks it should be made into a film, then he will start the casting.

Pre-production is where the casting and auditions happen. The producer must first find a director who will help him through the casting process. After finding the cast and crew from positions such as the performers to the boom operator to the special effects editor, they start to find locations.

Production is the fun part of filmmaking where the performers perform in front of the camera. The cinematographer decides the angle to shoot the scene at. There are many angles such as the Point-of-View Shot, Medium Shot, High Angle Shot, Close-Up Shot, and Freeze-Frame. The director will help in all jobs and all decisions must be made by the director. The director tells the actors how to perform it because on the script is only a brief action. For example, they only say "walk" in scripts. Directors say "walk slowly" or "walk happily" in this part.

After shooting the film, they will need to put music on, put on special effects, and cut the bad scenes out. The composer (e.g. John Williams) will compose the soundtrack and compose the songs. The special effects editor puts up things like fire, freeze frame effects, slow motion, or loud crashing sounds. Finally, the editor cuts out the bloopers and makes the film.

Distrubution is the end. Marketing stuff like selling this movie to film festivals, putting it in cinemas, and merchandising more products like cups or t-shirts of your film.
