Toaster Strudel
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Toaster Strudel Breakfast Pastries are a frozen pastry introduced in June 1984 and marketed by Pillsbury. They are prepared by heating in the toaster and spreading the included icing packet on top of the pastry. This do-it-yourself icing has been found to appeal especially to children.[1] The product has found considerable success since its debut and is still available in most grocery stores.[2]
Advertising for the Toaster Strudel has often pointed out its advantages over Kellogg's Pop-Tarts, a primary competitor in the breakfast and snack food market. A back-package copy even reads "It's like Pop-Tarts, but tastes better ... Sorry Pop-Tarts, 2 out of 3 people agreed, Pillsbury Toaster Strudel Pastries just taste better."[3] This has often been amplified by showing a plain, frost-less Pop-Tart alongside a well frosted Toaster Strudel.
