[edit] Overview
Tivat airport was built in 1971 with a single runway of 2,500 meters, sufficient apron space for seven planes at the same time and capacity for six plane movements per hour.
It has one passenger terminal that handles all traffic. It is a single-storey building built in 1971, and extensively refurbished in 2006. It has 11 check-in posts, a duty free shop, rent-a-car posts, and major Montenegrin bank outlets.
Tivat airport is located on the northern Adriatic coast of Montenegro. With mountains rising abruptly around the Tivat field, and runway jutting out into Bay of Kotor, it is a challenge to land at. In spite of that fact, there were no accidents at or near the airport.
There are daily flights from Tivat to Belgrade throughout the year, while all other flights are heavily concentrated over the summer period. Tivat airport is mainly used by charter flights to the northern coastal resorts, being only 7 km away from Kotor and 20 km from tourist metropolitan of Budva. The airport has fastest growing rate of number of passengers of any airport in the region.
