[edit] Helpful pages that may help you with article editing
- WP:ARTICLE
- WP:FIRST
- WP:WANTED - this is a great source for articles that have still yet to be created and could use an experienced editor like yourself to create. Scan through some of the requested articles and see if any appeal to you.
- WP:AFC - while this does not exactly require much writing skills it is a start in the right direction, and will help you determine what is a good article and what fails article criteria.
- WP:EXP - articles that have been started but still need a lot more content, all you have to do is do a little research on the topic and add content to the article. Could it be any easier?! :P
- WP:PNA - this page splits articles that need work up into categories to help you edit articles you are interested in.
[edit] Questions to help determine areas of interest
- 1.What do you commonly do on your free time (other than wikipedia)
- A: Typical geek activities, play video games, modify things, create programs and web pages.
- 2.Have you contributed to any articles before, if so which ones?
- A:I created Charles H. McCann Technical High School because I saw it at WP:WANTED and I was attending the school at the time.
- 3What is your current occupation, or what field are you interested in working in (if your in school)?
- A:Information Technology, working on A+ and Cisco
- 4.What types of books do you read, if any?
- A:Sci-Fi, Action, Adventure, Drama, really every genre. I mostly read the Harry Potter series and Noble Dead series though
- 5.What type of films do you enjoy watching? You can be as general or as specific as you like.
- A: Action, Sci-Fi, Adventure, Pretty much the same things I am interested in when reading a book.
- 6.What state do you live in? If you are outside of the United States, which country?
- A: Massachusetts, United States of America
- 7.Do you consider yourself an expert in any particular subject, if so which one?
- A: Because of my continued reading I think it would be in novels and as I am trained in IT programing and to some degree A+ and Cisco. But I also play video games...a lot of video games.
- 8.What drew you to editing on wikipedia?
- A:I had originally been editing as an IP doing work related to typos and improper grammar once I got started I couldn't stop, but when the IP was blocked (It was on a shared network) I decided to make an account to avoid that again. Well once I got the new account I was not used to the things you could do with it and I was still very unfamiliar with the policies (because I was only doing typo work and grammar correction) I started testing Wikipedia. This made me an accidental vandal. Which in turn scared me into not wanting to create articles for fear of being reprimanded. So I found out about Anti-Vandalism and decided that would be my niche, though now I know it is important it does need to be backed up. Rgoodermote 16:36, 20 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] RfA
While I do not have the time right now to do so myself, I would recommend that you request a admin coach as they will ultimately make sure that you are ready for a RfA. Also make sure that you spread you areas of contributions widely, and make sure that you participate in AFD's. I also recommend that if you have not done so before or recently you go up for a editor review, the more feedback you get the more you improve. Cheers, and I hope all this helps.
