This is the timeline of the 3 highest man-made structures in the world, all categories, that at least have the strength to carry more than their own weight in air.

[edit] Overview

In this timeline, only structures that were still standing a particular year are considered for that year. For structures that modify so their height change, only the height that the structure actually had a particular year is considered for that year. This is perhaps more fair than a timeline of the records of all time, because the old figures might be incorrect. At the points when the old structures falls, new structures with more certain figures are allowed to appear in the timeline. This is the historic top 3 list of existing tallest structures per day.

When several structures of the same height exists, the oldest is counted as the highest.

The second and third positions are uncertain. Old dates are uncertain. Some old heights are uncertain. Dates when the Egyptian pyramids got their present reduced height are uncertain, and their original height in many cases unknown.

Some more rules for this timeline follows as: For a sky-scraper, the basement does not count, only the height above ground-level is considered. For an off-shore platform, the part buried below the sea floor does not count, only the water depth plus structure height above the surface is considered. Only off-shore items constructed in such a way they would be still standing if the ocean was dried out, are taken into account. Mining structures do not count because they are supported by the mountain which was not man-made, but of course such structures that would still be standing if the mountain was removed, counts...

The ca 1500 m tall Magnolia ETLP is excluded from the timeline because this offshore tension-leg oil platform is supported by the water, it is floating, and if the water was removed the tension in its legs would change to compression and they would most certainly buckle.
