| 1625 | July | An trading ship owned by the English merchant William Courten landed at Holetown and claimed Barbados on behalf of James I. |
| 1627 | February 25 | English king Charles I gave Courten the title to Barbados. |
| July 2 | Charles gave the title to Barbados to James Hay, the 1st Earl of Carlisle. | |
| 1629 | Forces in Carlisle's employ arrived in Barbados and arrested Courten's governor. | |
| 1639 | Barbados's first parliament, the House of Assembly, held its first meeting. |
