Time Does Not Heal is the fourth and final album by Dark Angel, which was released in 1991. When released it had a sticker reading "9 songs, 67 minutes, 246 riffs!". This album is probably Dark Angel's most progressive offering by the length and compexity of the songs. Because of its taking thrash to new heights in musical complexity and technicality, it is considered a classic album and one of the last classic thrash albums.

As mentioned previously, the album contains a total of 246 guitar riffs (although some have counted more). The album has been described as "progressive thrash" by fans and critics. The 9 songs on the album are all extremely complex and filled with numerous tempo changes. Unlike earlier albums, which were blindingly fast almost non stop, TDNH mixes up fast tempos with moderate and even sometimes slow tempos in its extremely complex songs. The production of this album, by famed metal producers Terry Date is extremely clean and crisp unlike Dark Angels previous offerings. The guitar riffs are very precise and clear in tone. The bass is audible, and the drum tones sound more biting and clear. The solos are also more melodic and clear.

The album was noted for its very interesting lyrical themes. Most of the lyrics deal with some sort of psychological problem of a person. A few songs such as "The New Priesthood" and "A Subtle Induction" are more social/political commentaries. However perhaps the most well known and controversial of all the songs on TDNH is the song "An Ancient Inherited Shame". The song a description of rape from a female perspective. The lyrics themselves are detailed descriptions of rape, with the chorus line including the infamous (and often parodied) line "I'm not your whore!" Due to the controversial public response to a similar song "The Death of Innocence" on Leave Scars (about pedophilia), lyricist Hoglan thought he would once again get blasted for the song, but the song was actually complimented by feminist groups who thought the band did a good job getting inside the mind of a rape victim.[citation needed]

The album charted at 156 on the Billboard album charts. This was the bands highest charting album to date. Singles were released for "Act of Contrition" and "Psychosexuality". Many of the songs became fan favorites, as many fans regard this as Dark Angels best work (whether the bands best work is this or Darkness Descends is a topic of hot debate among fans).

[edit] Trivia

  • The intro of Psychosexuality bears a striking resemblance with the melody of Misirlou, which is quite unexpected coming from a band like Dark Angel.
