I'll have to double check my files, but I believe TSO was based in large part on a system developed at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan, called WRAP. WSU discarded WRAP in favor of the MTS system developed at nearby University of Michigan, and sold WRAP to IBM.

- SFP and other "forms-based" UIs; any program products for which TSO was the main interactive vehicle (in the the 1970s GIS meant IMB's Generalized Information System query / reporting package, geog info systems were invented earlier but did not become news until the 1980s).
