I think the merge would be a mistake. Timbuktu is a software product. Netopia is the developer. Both deserve separate entries. Logically, it makes no sense to place software products in the same entry as their developers -- Imagine how long the Microsoft entry would be if this was done! --msilverman

Instead of merging the articles, I think the Netopia entry should be fleshed out (adding background information such as the company's founding, other products, etc.) Zukin 21:32, 21 August 2006 (UTC)

Article claimed that Timbuktu is the only commercial remote software with both client and server, mentioning that VNC is open source. Microsoft's Remote Desktop Protocol fits this description, though it is bundled with the OS. As does Apple Remote Desktop, and Fog Creek's Copilot, though both rely on VNC.

Not sure the statement does much except blow sunshine over Timbuktu, so I thought deletion was better than lengthy clarification/caveats.

Josh, your statements are not entirely accurate. Microsoft's RDC doesn't have a Mac host (or server in VNC-speak) version; and Apple's Remote Desktop doesn't have a Windows admin console (or client in VNC-speak).

Pointing out that Timbuktu is the only non-VNC product that have both the client and server fully cross-platform is accurate and is not "blowing sunshine" anywhere.

I am going to restore my original wording, slightly edited.
