Talk:Tillington, West Sussex

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Interesting speculation about the name of the Horseguards Inn. However could it be that West Sussex is/was a traditional/designated recruiting area for the horse guards? Saga City 11:46, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

The story is considered authentic by local historians, although it is also possible that royal cavalry escorts stayed there if a monarch was staying at Petworth House. The pub is close to the old turnpike road from Guildford to Chichester, which was re-routed to the east early in the nineteenth centuary. At 50 miles from London it would be a covenient stop for wagons travelling 25 miles per day. (Hidden Dragon 11:31, 2 April 2007 (UTC))
