Tiedemann Giese (* 1480, † 1550) of the Patrician family Giese from Danzig (now Gdansk) became bishop of Kulm, then Fürstbischof (Prince Bishop) of Ermland. He was the brother of the famous Hanseatic trademan Georg Giese of Danzig.

Maurice Ferber and Tiedemann Giese were priests at ther Catholic St. Peter and Paul church, before Danzig and the church became Protestant during Reformation. Prussias Ermland region remained Catholic, in contrast to the rest of Prussia.

Bishop Tiedemann Giese was the closest friend of the Prussian administrator and churchman Nicolaus Copernicus, who lived in Ermland and governed counties of Allenstein and Mehlsack as well and after his death became known as astronomer. Copernicus willed his writings to Giese and left the Copernican library to the Ermland church administration.
