A 250cc BMW R27 "thumper"
A thumper is a motorcycle powered by a large capacity single-cylinder 4-stroke engine, so called due to the thump-thump-thump sound the engine makes.
Thumpers have good low-end power and are most often dirt-oriented bikes or dual sport motorcycles.
Some examples include the BMW F650, Kawasaki KLR, and Suzuki DR.
Harley Davidson converted the V-twin of its discontinued Sportster 1000 engine to make the 492cc (30.02 cubic inches) air-cooled power plant for its belt-driven Buell Blast model.
