Thomas M. Sullivan

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Tom Sullivan (Thomas M. Sullivan, b. about 1949) is an American radio talk show host and former stock broker who also serves as an anchor on the Fox Business Network. A Seattle native, he moved to the Sacramento, California area in 1975.

After graduating from Seattle University, Sullivan was a tax accountant for Price Waterhouse.

According to anecdotes on his radio talk show, he served with the Washington State Patrol before moving to Sacramento.

Sullivan is a managing director of The Sullivan Group, a brokerage he founded in 1980 and sold to Prudential Securities in 1986, so it is now is affiliated with Morgan Stanley.

Sullivan is widely recognized in the Sacramento area since he has served as financial editor for KFBK radio since December of 1980 and for KCRA television since 1982.

Sullivan began a radio talk show in July of 1988 on weekday afternoons from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Pacific on KFBK, and the show took and has held number one ratings ever since. Self-described as "fiscally conservative, socially it-depends", the success of his show, and his personal friendship with Rush Limbaugh whom he met at KFBK in the early 1980s, resulted in his occasional appearance as a stand-in host on The Rush Limbaugh Show. Sullivan's brokerage is The Sullivan Group that Limbaugh cites as the official auditor of his claim to be "documented to be almost always right" some specific percentage of the time.

On Wednesday September 19, 2007, popular radio host Tom Sullivan told listeners that he was broadcasting his "final show in Sacramento" but that he would still be heard on KFBK. Sullivan said he could not release any more information at this time due to the agreements he has with his "new employer". What Sullivan did not say is that he would be moving to New York to host a show on the Fox Business Network, a cable TV channel launching Oct. 15 (Complements of the Sacramento Bee, Dated September 20, 2007).

Sullivan's move to New York on the Fox Business Network also includes his business talk show becoming part of the Fox News Radio franchise, of which KFBK is an affiliate. This also brings to an end the substitute hosting for Limbaugh's show (although he had not done so in several years by this time); Jason Lewis replaced him in the substitute host rotation.

[edit] Comparison of Adolf Hitler and Barack Obama crowds

Sullivan faced severe criticism after comparing audio of the speeches of 2008 presidential candidate Senator Barack Obama and Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler on air during the February 11, 2008, broadcast of Fox News Radio's Tom Sullivan Show. After fielding a call from a right-wing listener who stated that the reaction of the crowd to Obama's speeches reminded him of the reaction to Hitler's speeches, Sullivan's program worked to splice together a clip of one of Obama's campaign speeches and a Hitler rally. When playing the clip on his program, Sullivan cheered along with the crowd recorded in both the Obama and Hitler samples.[1]
