Thomas Cadell

Thomas Cadell VC CB (September 5, 1835- April 6, 1919) was a Scottish recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces.

On 12 June 1857 at Delhi, India, during the siege, Lieutenant Cadell brought in a wounded bugler of his own regiment under most severe fire. Later on the same day, when the Fusiliers were retiring, this officer went back of his own accord and, accompanied by three men, brought in a severely wounded man under heavy fire from the advancing enemy.

He was 21 years old at the time and in the 2nd European Bengal Fusiliers (later The Royal Munster Fusiliers) during the Indian rebellion of 1857 when he performed the actions which resulted in being awarded the Victoria Cross.
