Thomas Bilotti

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Thomas "Tommy" Bilotti (March 23, 1940 - December 16, 1985) was a New York mobster who served as a driver and then Underboss for the reputed Boss of the Gambino crime family, Paul Castellano.

A captain, Bilotti was made the driver and bodyguard of Gambino boss Paul Castellano. In time, Castellano promoted Bilotti to underboss, an unpopular move in the family. In 1985, Bilotti and Castellano were ambushed outside Sparks Steak House in Manhattan, apparently on the orders of caporegime John Gotti. The meeting was arranged by friends of Bilotti and Castellano, friends who were against the age-old ban on narcotics as a business option. Bilotti left nine children, including a six-week old child, an autistic son, and a girlfriend who had a nervous breakdown upon hearing the news about his murder. Bilotti was a vicious capo who only spoke Italian and gave out orders to close friends.
