Thorney is not administered by Cambridgeshire,its part of the City of Peterborough unitary authority but historically in the Isle of Ely,in Cambs
[edit] Quieter?
Having grown up there I recall the arguments for a bypass being:
1) The deaths of numerous schoolchildren in accidents on the A47
2) The fact that in the 1920s DoB School was only built beside the A47 after assurances that there was a bypass coming soon
3) The demolition of the corner shop at the corner of Abbey Place and the A47 in a traffic accident (I seem to remember a truck took out the ground floor while the owners were asleep upstairs)
4) The demolition of all cars on the forecourt of Mill Garage by an out of control HGV in an incident which the owner's son was incredibly lucky to survive.
It seems to me that the mention of it being quieter understates the impact of the bypass.
