[edit] America Resignation

As pointed out by Father RJ Neuhaus in the May issue of the journal First Things, Father Reese's resignation was not brought about by Vatican pressure, but rather, as Neuhaus explains, because of pressure from American sources. And this pressure, one can accurately assume, stemmed from America's frequent flouting of Church doctrine, especially regarding fidelity to the Magisterium, not from the magazine's publishing of articles which 'merely' discussed contentious issues such as abortion, contraception and so forth.

Abortion is not merely a "contentious" issue within the Catholic Church - it is seen quite simply as murder. Historically, there has never been any lack of absolute opposition towards it. Proposing that such things seen merely as issues would be contrary to Catholic doctrine. Supporting abortion publically as a Catholic incurs automatic excomunication - so it isn't an option as a Catholic to express views in favour of it let alone commit the actual act --58.175.61.137 14:18, 7 July 2007 (UTC)
