There's some discrepancy about whether Benton's father went to Tennessee or not; most sources say he died when Benton was still young, but the 1911 encyclopedia claims that he moved the family to Tennessee, which didn't happen until 1799. I've taken the majority view, here, and I haven't really explored it since it's not terribly cogent. Just seems like sloppy research on by Britannica, again. B-) -- ESP 18:36 19 Jul 2003 (UTC)
