Does anyone know if Jack is into ancient philosophy? Or why he named the upholstery co. "third man"? Could it be a reference to Plato and Aristotle? In Plato's Parmenides, Plato presents what Aristotle eventually got dubbed the "third man argument." (it is an argument against plato's theory of the Forms. There's a wikipedia article on it (Third man argument) if you aren't familiar with it.)
