I am a 23-year old graduate student at the University of Denver's Graduate School of International Studies where I am earning an M.A. in International Studies, concentrating in both International Development and Environmental Policy. Beginning in the fall of 2008 I'll be attending Purdue University where I'll be working on a PhD in Political Science, with a primary focus on comparative politics.
In terms of my specific regional interests, my studies have been focused on transitions and development in the post-communist world generally and Central Asia particularly. As such, my Master's Thesis is an analysis of socioeconomic development and natural resource management in Kazakhstan between 1997 and 2007. Additionally, I also have a special interest in Thailand, having spent a month living among the Karen people in the northern part of the country.
As for the rest of my background, I'm a graduate of Millikin University and hold a B.A. with a double major in Political Science and Philosophy. After I receive my masters in March 2008 I hope to move to another graduate program where I will be pursuing a PhD in Political Science with a focus on Comparative Politics.
Modest Mouse, Wilco, The Decemberists, The Shins and Built to Spill are all kickass bands, everyone should listen to them.
I'm a terribly political person and consider myself to be quite liberal. Although I'm a member and supporter of the Democratic Party my own views tend more towards social democracy which is a more liberal view than is had in the core of my party. Thus, I'm a Democrat for practical reasons; the United States will not have a viable third party in the forseeable future and, as such, I support the only liberal party capable of bringing change.
As for my work on Wikipedia, I spend more time doing administrative type work than editing articles, though I am beginning to work on articles focusing on international development and Central Asia. I'm actively involved in AfD discussions and often get involved in discussions on article talk pages and at the Village Pump.
