User:The Duke of Waltham/Peerages
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This page constitutes a cross between a peerage inventory and a personal contributions list, and its origin is closely connected to succession boxes (though it may also be otherwise useful, in ways I am not yet aware of).
Basically, this is a list of peerage titles whose succession chains have been "inspected" by the Duke of Waltham. I use the term "inspected" because, even though most of the succession boxes in question have been actually edited by the Duke1, many of them had already been improved before Waltham's work on them2, so it would be quite unfair to attribute those to His Grace. I could also use the term "approved", but that would probably sound badly to the ears of several Wikipedians.
An added bonus of this page is that it lists subsidiary titles. By this definition, I refer to titles normally invisible in succession boxes, created along other titles for the same people and at the same time. Other such titles that were created under the same conditions but later followed a different course of succession (usually due to extinction of the senior titles) I have listed in the corresponding "basic titles" tables, as they now have their own succession lines. Feel free to add to the tables any forgotten subsidiary titles of the titles already listed (though I doubt anyone will bother).
Titles in bold have not yet been "inspected" in their entirety.
1 The most important changes I usually perform on succession boxes are template upgrading (to the Template:S-start model), categorisation correction (headers, line sorting), title standardisation, and chain continuance restoration (mostly for vacancies).
2 The finishing touches that are usually left for me to do in these cases are date style correction (format, links), layout and categorisation improvement, and introduction of new template parameters.

[edit] Key to the tables
In the tables for the basic titles (the ones that are visible in succession boxes, and for which I could not find any better name), there are the following columns:
- Serial number (#) – it allows one to revert the table to its original sorting (descending order of seniority, then ascending alphabetical order) after sorting the table by a different column
- Title – rather self-explaining
- Creation – the number of the particular incarnation of a title; an en-dash indicates that the title was only created once
- Number of holders (Hold.) – The number of the people who have held the particular title or creation thereof, including those who have held higher titles
- Number of extant articles (Art.) – The number of the existing articles for holders of the title
- Number of appearances (App.) – The number of the succession boxes in which the title has a succession line
- Number of inspected boxes (Box.) – The number of the previous column's succession boxes edited by the Duke of Waltham
- Number of names featuring the title (Nm.) – The number of the title's holders' articles in the titles of which the specific peerage title is included, something that indicates whether this is a subject's most senior title or not; if an article title does not include any peerage titles but would include this one otherwise, this article is counted in a second number shown within parentheses
- Notes – The way the title ended (or the word "extant" if it still exists), or the details about the granting of a higher title (specific peer elevated, specific title, and, if applicable, number of title's creation; in case that is in a different peerage, a shortcut is given in parentheses); also, in case the title is held concurrently with a more senior title for part of its history, details are given about that as well
In the tables for the subsidiary titles, the "App.", "Box.", and "Nm." columns are missing—as all three numbers are zero for subsidiary titles—and the "Notes" column is substituted with a "Senior title" column—as this is the only information that can be filled in there.
Note that, in the four columns following "Creation", no number can be higher than that of the previous column.
