[edit] Personnel
- The album was ready to be recorded with original frontman Dallas Taylor, the album was going to be called "Dear Misery" that would feature songs such as "Coryn's Defeat", and "Look Past the Bright Lights" which is now "Reinventing Your Exit".
- This is Underoath's first album with Spencer Chamberlain as lead vocalist, who had formerly been the lead vocalist of the band This Runs Through. Dallas Taylor had been Underoath's frontman on all of their earlier full-lengths: The Changing of Times, Cries Of The Past, and Act of Depression.
- "I've Got 10 Friends and a Crowbar That Says You Ain't Gonna Do Jack" first appeared as the first track on SmartPunk.com's Music On The Brain Vol. 1 CD, which was released on July 20, 2004. It would later appear on the 12" vinyl and Japanese versions of They're Only Chasing Safety.
- Except for "I've Got 10 Friends...", all of the bonus tracks on the special edition version of the album were taken from the band's session with Matt Goldman and are pre-production demos of songs which would later grow to become the regular album tracks. "The 80's Song" is an early version of "It's Dangerous Business Walking Out Your Front Door," "You're so Intricate" is an early version of "I'm Content With Losing," and "SmicTague" is an instrumental adaptation of "Some Will Seek Forgiveness, Others Escape." Prior to They're Only Chasing Safety's release, a few of these demo tracks were used to promote the album: "You're So Intricate" had been featured on a Tower Records exclusive Tooth & Nail Records compilation and a demo version of "Young and Aspiring" (not included on the special edition release) had been posted on the band's website.
- The song "Some Will Seek Forgiveness, Others Escape" features Aaron Marsh on the majority of the vocals, with Aaron Gillespie and Spencer Chamberlain joining in at the climactic end of the song.
- They're Only Chasing Safety's album sales have reached over 350,000.
