Thelma Carpenter (January 15, 1922May 14, 1997) was a jazz singer and actress, best known as "Miss One" in the movie "The Wiz". In 1939 she joined Count Basie, where she recorded some of her most memorable material. After Basie she recorded with Teddy Wilson and the Deep River Boys. She kept touring into the 60s. In the 70's she began an acting career.

She died in 1997 from a heart attack.
