Theatre for the Performing Arts
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Theatre for the Performing Arts is a 7,000 seat theater located in the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino on the Las Vegas Strip.
[edit] History
The Performing Arts Center or the Aladdin Theatre for the Performing Arts opened as a 7,500 seat theater for the Aladdin Las Vegas as a part of the 1976 renovations.[1]
The theater was the only part of the complex retained during the 1996 reconstruction.[2] However the renovations reduced the number of seats to 7,000 and it is now called The Theatre for the Performing Arts.[3] The redesign retained the section curtains that allows the theater to be reconfigured to accommodate various sizes of audiences from 2,500 to 7,000.[4]
The Aladdin and the theater gained international attention on July 18, 2004 when Linda Ronstadt was escorted off the property after expressing support for documentary filmmaker Michael Moore during a concert performance.[5]
The Theatre was the host of the Miss Universe 1991, 1996, Miss America beauty pageants, and Miss USA 2008.[6]
