The Greenest Generation is a neologism used to denote the environmentally conscious group of people whose generations span, but are not limited to Generation X, the MTV Generation, and the Echo Boom Generation. The term is derived from The Greatest Generation, which was the title of a best-selling book by Tom Brokaw.
The Greenest Generation is assumed to mean those born of the Baby Boom Generation and after who are a part of the ever growing Environmental movement[citation needed]. The term was coined by Dan Pink and was the subject of a New York Times article by Thomas Friedman, calling on college students to rise up and do their part to help the earth.[1] Some of the goals of the greenest generation are to become carbon neutral, reduce fossil fuel consumption, drive hybrid vehicles, and use more renewable energy technologies like solar panels.
