The Windmill Brixton is a small independently-run live music venue in the shade of Brixton prison. The pub itself was built in 1971 as a local boozer for the adjacent Blenheim Gardens housing estate. it went through various phases of being a bar that attracted locals, bikers, the Irish community and by the end of the 1990s it was hosting DJs, poets and the occasional live bands. Around 2002 the Windmill shifted focus onto live music and since then has managed to attract many up-and-coming bands and several renowned touring acts despite its out-of-the-way location. Early gigs included a semi-secret double bill of Calexico and Kurt Wagner (of Lambchop) followed by a rammed-out and rauscous show by Japanese all-girl garage band The 5678s, just after they had appeared as the house band in Tarantino's Kill Bill 2. Other highlights have included:
- two shows by Bloc Party, after they had just changed their name from Union, in 2003
- the first live performance in 26 years by Scritti Politti, playing under the name of Double G & the Traitorous 3
- the location for The View's first video 'Wasted Little DJs' which topped the MTV 2 charts in 2006
