The United States of Tara is an upcoming dark comedy on the Showtime Network. It was developed by Academy Award-winning screenwriter and author, Diablo Cody, who wrote the pilot based on an idea by Steven Spielberg. It was given a green light in April 2007. Oscar-nominee Toni Collette has been cast in the title role and filming commenced on April 14 at North Hollywood High School, and the episode will involve the school play. It is likely to air sometime in late 2008.[1] It centers around a wife and mother, of two teenage girls, who has dissociative identity disorder, or multiple personalities. Some of Tara's personalities will include an aggressive male biker, a promiscuous teenage girl, and a Martha Stewart-like homemaker.[2]
Jason Reitman has agreed to direct the pilot.[3] Robert Greenblatt, the president of Showtime, described the series as "a sort of Weeds meets Sybil or The Three Faces of Eve."[2] The series is to be shot in single camera and is being co-produced by Spielberg's DreamWorks Television.[4]
