The Sydney Mandolins was founded in 1975 by mandolinist Adrian Hooper. Over the past 32 years it has varied in size and configuration, but has always included four core players: Paul Hooper, Adrian Hooper, Barbara Hooper and Joyce Bootsma. The have commissioned well over 100 works from composers living in Australia and abroad, including Eric Gross, Michael Smetanin, Ian Shanahan and Andrew Robbie. In recent years they have preferred recordings to live performances, and have released extensively, mostly on the JADE label.
