The song became a 1957 hit for US country singer Marty Robbins, reaching #1 on the country chart and #15 on the Billboard Top 100.

In the UK, a version was also recorded by Michael Holliday, and reached #1 in 1958. It was also recorded that year by Alma Cogan.
