The Steve Allen Show was an award-winning U.S. television variety show hosted by Steve Allen from June 1956 to June 1960 on NBC, and from September 1961 to December 1961 on ABC.[1].
The show won a Peabody Award in 1958 for its "genuine humor and frank experiments" during a year when most shows were "conspicuously lacking" such elements.[2]
During the first fall the show was broadcast, Allen presented Elvis Presley, Louis Jordan & The Tympany Five performing "Caledonia", and Fats Domino. Rockabilly singers Lorrie & Larry Collins, The Collins Kids were on the show twice and performed "Rock Around The Clock", "In My Teens", and "Razzle Dazzle." [1] At that time all of these musician's music was being called rock n roll. Jerry Lee Lewis would appear on the show on three separate occasions.[2][3] Allen began his introduction of Lewis on his first appearance by stating that "There's been a whole lotta shakin' goin' on around here all day." He referred to Lewis as jumpin' an' joltin' Jerry Lee Lewis". [3] The Treniers did "Rock, Rock, Rock Everybody" and "There's Good Rockin' Tonight" on a November 1957 show.[4]
