The Recipe for Gertrude

The Recipe for Gertrude is a manga written and illustrated by Nari Kusakawa (see also Palette of 12 Secret Colors and Two Flowers of the Dragon).

The story centers around a hundred year old demon, named Gertrude, who was created by a madman by the name of Claude. He used limbs and organs of different demons for each of Gertrude's body parts.

After being chased by two demons--Puppen and Marionette--who wanted their ears back from Gertrude, the latter decides to rest in an old abandoned house in Japan, where he encounters a seventeen year old girl, Sahara.

As the story progresses, the two (plus the afore mentioned demons, Puppen and Marionette, both of which turn out to be clowns, for the most part...)begin to work together to find the Recipe for Gertrude--the recipe Claude left behind on how to build a demon.
