The Real News is an English-language news network. It relies almost exclusively on member donations, and doesn't accept funding from advertising, government or media corporations.[1] The Real News states to be "focused on providing independent and uncompromising journalism", on "the critical issues of our times."[1] Its broadcasts are over the Internet, and has contracts with cable and satellite channels. Launched in 2007, it was initially part of a larger project called International World Television, but The Real News has since supplanted the parent project. It was started by Paul Jay,[2] a former producer with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.

The Real News journalist committee includes Lewis Lapham, Gore Vidal, Amy Goodman, Naomi Klein, and Howard Zinn.[3] The most recurring political analysts are Aijaz Ahmad, Pepe Escobar and Eric Margolis. Although The Real News features highly experienced journalists from all over the world,[4] it plans to also host volunteer-based citizen journalism reports in a dedicated portion of its website.
