The One Thing was the first successfully-released chart hit for the band INXS from the album Shabooh Shoobah which was released worldwide in the spring of 1982.
Shabooh Shoobah reached # 52 on the Billboard 200 and # 46 on the Hot Pop Albums chart.[4][5] "The One Thing" brought INXS their first Top-30 hit in the United States and was also a Top-20 hit in Canada.[6] INXS played alongside many of their contemporaries on New Wave Day at the 1983 US Festival.[7] Many songs from Shabooh Shoobah were featured prominently in the 1984 film Reckless.[8]
"The One Thing" is notably featured in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories on the fictional radio station Flash FM.
The song features Michael Hutchence as Lead Singer.
