The Oaks Shopping Center

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Oaks Shopping Center is a two-level enclosed, super-regional shopping mall located in Thousand Oaks, California. It is owned and managed by Macerich. Highly visible from the US Highway 101 Ventura Freeway midway between downtown Los Angeles and Santa Barbara, it is one of two malls in its area (competing with the Simi Valley Town Center). The 1.3 million square foot mall was originally built in 1978 and was renovated in 1993, which upgraded interior finishes, restrooms, entrance canopies and skylights. The mall is currently undergoing a major interior renovated and expansion to reflect a modern Spanish and Santa Barbara-influenced design. The expansion will include a Muvico 14-screen stadium seat theatre with unique 21 and over seating and a full serve cocktail lounge, 10-unit food court (really a Spanish Dining Hall) and luxurious amenities like family restrooms with granite, stacked flagstone and limestone tile. Centered around the theatre are four (4) sit-down restaurants connected to a 112,330 square foot retail expansion in an outdoor environment. The project will begin opening in phases starting in the Fall of 2008, however the first phase of the interior renovation and food court recently opened on November 18, 2007.
