The Nine Castles of Knuckle

The Nine Castles of Knuckle are a group of ancient castles found in the extinct area of "Knuckle", which today would be located on the very far corner of the north-east coast of Aberdeenshire in the Buchan area of Scotland.

  • Built by the Comyn's originally but then destroyed. The castle was then rebuilt by the Fraser family c.1380[1]
  • Note this is not the same Kinnaird Castle as that found near Montrose, Angus.
  • ~This is a different Castle of Rattray to that of Clan Rattray's ancient castle in Perthshire.
