Next American City (sometimes abbreviated NAC) is a national urban affairs magazine.
The goal of the magazine is to take a fresh look at what's happening in cities across the country and examine how and why cities are changing. Each issue focuses on a theme, with several features focused on that topic. Additional stories cover a variety of topics in architecture, planning and development, transportation, urban economies, housing, environmental issues, labor issues and workforce development, education, and crime.
The magazine was founded in late 2002 Seth Brown and Adam Gordon, former roommates at Yale University, as The Next American City; its title was abbreviated in 2008. The first issue was distributed in Spring of 2003 and received favorable coverage in the New York Times, The New Yorker, Architecture Magazine, and the Baltimore Sun, among others.
Through a quarterly magazine, events across the country, and op-eds in major newspapers, the magazine promotes socially and environmentally sustainable economic growth in America’s cities and suburbs.
