The Mormon Worker

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Mormon Worker is an independent bi-monthly newspaper currently published in Provo and Salt Lake City, Utah.[1] The paper was started in late 2007 by active members of the LDS church who hope to connect the ideas of the radical left with core ideas from the Mormon faith such as cooperation, charity, the teachings of Jesus Christ, and social equality. The paper also explores the compatibility of Mormonism with Christian Anarchism, which has been met with some harsh critism by conservative members of the church.[2] As of April 2008, the paper has published three issues.

[edit] Influences on the Paper

The Title

The paper's title was inspired by The Catholic Worker, a Catholic newspaper founded in New York City by Dorothy Day and Peter Maurin in 1933. The Catholic Worker is known for its strict pacifism.[3]

Christian Anarchism

The ideas of Christian Anarchists such as Leo Tolstoy have been influential on the overall philosophy of the paper.
