From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Michigan Times is the student newspaper at the University of Michigan-Flint. Having been founded in 1956 as the University News, The Michigan Times has seen notables such as filmmaker Michael Moore[citation needed] and American Idol finalist LaKisha Jones[citation needed] on its staff.

In 2003, the university's literary magazine entitled "Qua" was incorporated in The Michigan Times. It has since become an autonomous publication once again, and reached students in paperback form in April 2008 under the leadership of Ashley Treadwell.

The Michigan Times has a print run of 4,000 papers per 16 Editions each academic year (volume).

Former Layout Editor and writer John McKay, under the guidance of Editor-in-Chief Vanessa Ferguson spearheaded the publication's foray into the digital world, formally launching the Michigan Times website, www.themichigantimes.comin 2003. It marked the first time the newspaper has been available in a digital format.

In 2007, student Mike Stechschulte was selected as the Editor-in-Chief of The Michigan Times for 2008 onward.
